AAAM and Solid Light, Inc are pleased to announce the second year of our internship/fellowship program for AAAM Emerging Museum Professionals.
Internship / Fellowship Goal:
To support and foster talented young African American and/or Latino professionals in their career development in the museum field and related industries, and to cultivate potential opportunities for them at Solid Light. AAAM Emerging Museum Professionals are encouraged to apply for one of two paid track options—Internship or Fellowship as described below:
This program is for college or university students who have completed at least two years of study and are pursuing a career in museums, environmental design, or related fields, including writing, content development, curatorial, archival, design, architecture, marketing, multimedia and film, digital design, history, project management, fabrication.
Objectives:Gain a comprehensive overview of the process of creating exhibitions from concept to completion.Develop specific skills in chosen area of study.Develop greater understanding of the field in general and opportunities for career direction.Gain exposure to local museum institutions.Solid Light will work with applicant’s institution to meet standards, goals, and objectives as specified in its program.Duration is for one semester, or duration specified by institution
Internship Program Specifics:Selected applicant will be assigned a Solid Light team mentor who will supervise his/her program.Work alongside mentor on a specific project, in order to gain in-depth understanding of project process.Spend a short time immersed with each of the Solid Light teams—Design, Media, and Fabrication—as well as exposure to Client Development and Marketing.Intern will have opportunities to network with museum and cultural institution professionals.Intern will have the opportunity to participate in professional development sessions.
This program is designed for emerging professionals who have completed their degree in museum studies, environmental design, or a related field.
Objectives:Gain a comprehensive, working understanding of the process of creating exhibitions from inception to completion.Develop and apply skills in crafting memorable visitor experiences.Develop specific and practical skills in chosen career path.Develop greater understanding of the exhibit development, design, and fabrication, creating an opportunity to explore various career directions.Gain exposure to local museum institutions and other related businesses and professional organizations. Duration of this program will be from three-to-nine months, to be negotiated based on the needs of the selected individual.
Fellowship Program Specifics:Selected applicant will be assigned a Solid Light team mentor who will supervise his/her program.Participate and work as a part of a Solid Light project team on a specific project, in order to gain in-depth understanding of project processes.Collaboratively engage with each of the Solid Light teams—Design, Media, and Fabrication.Fellow will have opportunities to network with museum and cultural institution professionals.Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in professional development sessions and conferences.
