Excellence in Exhibition awarded to American Civil War Museum

The 32nd Annual Excellence in Exhibition Competition recognizes outstanding achievement in the exhibition format from all types of museums, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and any other types of non-commercial institutions offering exhibitions to the public.

This year, the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, VA was awarded the American Alliance of Museums Excellence in Exhibition Special Achievement in Storytelling through Collections for 2020. Opening in June 2019, the Museum has already changed and influenced conversations – and its mission to inspire visitors to emotionally and intellectually engage with the collections in order to challenge long-held beliefs is especially relevant in our current circumstances. We were honored to partner with Christy S. Coleman, Catherine Wright, Robert Hancock, Dr. John Coski, Edward L. Ayers, and the dedicated and impassioned Museum team and board to bring this wonderful project to life.

The competition is the joint project of the following American Alliance of Museums Professional Networks (PNs): Curators Committee (CurCom), the National Association for Museum Exhibition (NAME), the Committee on Audience Research and Evaluation (CARE), and the Education Committee (EdCom).
